Operator level
Remote Operator / ROC Operator Level Training by The World Yacht
Train as the watchkeeper who actually drives the vessel from shore. You’ll run multi-sensor situational awareness, navigate to COLREGS, manage bandwidth and latency, and execute contingency actions when automation or comms misbehave.
On completion you’re cleared for operational ROC watchkeeping under company familiarisation and procedures.
- Remote navigation and COLREGS-style decision-making using cameras, radar, AIS, IMU and environmental inputs.
- Station keeping, heading/speed control, controlled turns and close-quarters manoeuvring via remote helm and thrust.
- Situational awareness across multi-sensor displays; tuning feeds; detecting small contacts in limited visibility.
- Degraded-link response: recognise bandwidth/latency issues early, prioritise critical data, trigger backups/safe-state.
- Handover of control between operators/positions without losing command of the vessel.
- Built to the Remote Operator scheme — formal certificate on successful assessment.
- Trains the person actually driving the unmanned vessel, not just “monitoring telemetry”.
- ROC procedures, checklists and emergency actions for loss of link, casualty, cyber compromise or automation drift.
- Skills industry wants now: compliant watchkeeping in live USV operations.
