Course Description
Course is designed for masters, chief mates, chief engineer officers, second engineer officers and any other personnel who are responsible for carrying out planned maintenance, inspection and thorough examination of in service portable lifting equipment & accessories as per the Merchant Shipping and Fishing Vessel (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment) Regulations 2006. The aim is to candidates an insight of the inspection methods of working portable lifting equipment as required by (LOLER) Lifting Operations Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 and the (PUWER) Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 along with other relevant legislation.. The course also looks at the documentation required and the various inspection techniques and rejection criteria of portable lifting equipment including how to produce reports and certification of thorough examination as per Schedule 1, of the Lifting Operations Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998.
Course Contents:
After successful completion of the course the trainees will have an understanding pertaining to portable lifting equipment & accessories of:
•Their statutory duties under relevant legislation.
•Methods of inspection and testing.
•Rejection Criteria of portable lifting equipment accessories listed within.
•Proof Load / Safe Working Load Criteria.
•Test Certificates / Certificates of Conformity and Registers.
•Record keeping requirements.
•The role of the Competent Person.
•Thorough Examination Report requirements.
After successful completion of the course the trainees will, in accordance with appropriate legislation, be able to:
•Identify and reject defective portable lifting equipment & accessories.
•Identify, record and maintain associated Certificates and Registers.
•Perform their role as a Competent Person.
•Perform planned maintenance of portable lifting equipment & accessories.
•Produce internal Thorough Examination Reports and Certificates.
