Entry Requirements: Masters and officers undertaking this basic training course must have completed a minimum of six months sea time on board any vessel operating in any waters.

 

Course Description

To give seafarers on board ships operating in polar water, in conjunction with the guidance provided in the Polar Code, the education and training covered within the STCW requirements. The course covers those parts of the Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency (KUP) requirements specific to ships operating in polar waters, as set out in the following.

Training Outcome

 

There are six outcomes to the training

Outcome 1 The learner knows about ice found in polar waters

Outcome 2 The learner knows about the polar water regions where ice is found and related seasonal changes

Outcome 3 The learner knows and understands about vessel preparedness, performance and capability in polar water regions

Outcome 4 The learner knows and understands emergency preparedness and response to emergencies in polar waters

Outcome 5 The learner knows how to ensure compliance with pollution prevention requirements and how to prevent environmental hazards

Outcome 6 The learner knows and understands how to use international and regional regulations and codes whilst operating in polar waters
